I'm Anna Maria—or just Anna—and I'm the human (allegedly) behind the Magpie.
I'm a multiply neurodivergent spoonie, a brand designer, a multipassionate creative, a storyteller, a speaker, a jack-of-all-trades, an escapist, a Virgo, a manifesting generator, a foodie, a stray cat collector, a millennial, a Greek—and a misfit on a mission to empower all her misfit friends to take up space in the business world.
my story
It all started when I designed a flyer for my dad's business on Photoshop when I was 12...
Nah, not really. Well, I did design a flyer, but it wasn't like, the beginning of my career as a graphic designer or anything.
In fact, I never really knew what I wanted to do. All I knew was it had to be something creative.
But I grew up in a world where "there's no money in art". So I spent my teens and early adulthood directionless. Worked a bunch of random jobs, attended a bunch of random vocational schools, tried a bunch of different side hustles. And then one day, while I was looking at yet another list of vocational degrees, it struck me—
Why not try graphic design? I've tried all this other stuff, but not something actually creative.
So I went back to school for graphic design, and got a job as an in-house designer at a printing company. While I enjoyed it, I quickly realized that the company's clients did not understand how important visuals are for their brand image (or what a brand image was in the first place). Every time they sent me a logo they found on the internet and asked me to copy it, I died a little inside.
This is when I fell in love with and decided to pivot to brand design. I wanted to help business owners build brands that were one of a kind, that allowed them to stand out from competition, and truly encapsulated their unique offerings.
After a few different renditions of my business and brand (and after figuring out and accepting my neurodivergence), Misfit Magpie Design was officially born in late 2024.
To put it simply: I'm here to support neurodivergent women and nonbinary folks in their businesses. I'm here to empower you to take up space in your industry—and in society. I'm here to inspire you to run a business that works for you, that honors your needs, and that strays from the mainstream, capitalist model that puts profit over people and output over lives. I'm here to make branding simple and fun. I'm here to give you the tools to market your business with efficiency and ease. I'm here to help you run your brand with confidence, and attract your people.
